Il concerto è introdotto dalla prima esecuzione assoluta di The Titans di Francesco Traversi, una composizione per orchestra e brass ensemble in cui il riferimento alla mitologia richiama l'atteggiamento di ribellione contro forze superiori - destino, natura, danaro, ecc - da parte dei "titani" moderni, persone di grandi qualità morali che si ergono come esempi per tutti.
La Sinfonia "dal nuovo mondo", l'ultima e forse la più famosa composta da Antonín Dvořák, unisce le forme musicali europee con melodie ispirate al folklore americano, agli spirituals e ai canti delle piantagioni. Nel primo tempo appare lo spiritual Swing low, sweet chariot, mentre nella parte centrale fanno capolino melodie tratte da canti della comunità indiana ascoltati dall'autore a Spilville, nello Iowa. Il finale, Allegro con fuoco, è una delle pagine sinfoniche più apprezzate del compositore boemo, utilizzata come colonna sonora e rivisitata da varie band come i Rhapsody of Fire e dai Blind Guardian.

Francesco Traversi (Global Music Awards Winner 2016 - USA) is an Italian multi-awards winner composer also based in Los Angeles where he works as arranger and orchestrator. He’s graduated from the Florence Conservatory of Music and improved himself in many other important international music academies. Formed in the world of the European avant-garde and tightening immediately a close relationship with the new languages and modern technologies, Traversi composes works that move freely between contemporary idioms and rhythmic and melodic innovations, combining intricacy and technical virtuosity with sound research and experimentation, without forgetting the teaching of composers of the twentieth century.
Traversi's major works have been programmed by several orchestras in Europe and also in the United States. In his career he composed works especially for chamber music, symphonic music, sacred music, wind orchestra, pieces for solo instruments, string quartets, pieces for large orchestra, symphonic poems, operas, scenic paintings for voices and orchestra, pieces for chorus and young performers, arrangements, transcriptions, instrumentation for wind ensemble, but also music for images, new age, pop, rock and experimental for over 150 titles.
His music, available in print also from Wichy Edition, has been released on several CD’s and performed with many orchestras in Europe and US. He has won many international awards for contemporary compositions and original soundtracks. In fact, he started a professional career also as a composer in film music industry since 1998 and, recently, he’s obtained a prestigious nomination for Hollywood Music Awards in Los Angeles, the First Prize at the competition Best Soundtrack 2014 for short films and the First Prize at the “Sounds in motion” Competition as best soundtrack for animations. He is also engaged as orchestra and choir conductor.
